Hoy Hoy!
Greetings from Casa dos Gatos! Got a little early Joe Jackson (no relation) banging thru the earbuds tonite. Heard a commercial using “Steppin’ Out” yesterday and really got a hankering for that album (Night and Day), and his first (Look Sharp). Got ‘em on vinyl only, so it looks like a couple of hours of cutting and pasting to get them digitized. When I’m done I’ll loan them to you. Lotsa good stuff there, you bet.
I don’t know where to start on this one. That may have been one of the Classic Crab Race Shows of the Modern Era, if not all time. Tremendous crowd, in numbers as well as appearance. Of course the Saints were there, back to near mob proportions. Ashley and Sandra book ended their Race Row contingent with the rest of the team falling in behind them on the East End. A conflagration of Dorothys and Former Dorothys and friends of Dorothy on the West Side of the Space Crab Racing Board. The Midfield Table was packed to record proportions in celebration of The Original Sarah’s Thirty-First Birthday. The names and faces came and went thru the evening but the party just kept on going, eventually spilling into the Skyboxes and finally engulfing a smaller table completely. Team McCain had a mob of their own at the Far Window Table. The Legendary Leonard was with them, as well as Kelli, Kelli, Kelli, Kelli, K-E-L-L-I, Kelli (all five of us who raced in the nineties will remember that). Angie and Kevin headed up a crew holding down the West End of the Bar and I believe I actually saw Andrea walk thru a couple of times. Les U More Me slipped in late in the First Half and joined the proceedings at the break. Buddha brought another strong Facial Shot Racing Team for the third or fourth week in a row. They did a fine job of filling up the Near Window Table. Ricky Four Inch tending the Bar, Thursday Night Shane in the Kitchen, The Amazing Amy on the floor, SERVING US ALL!!!!, and Steve and Darnell setting the Tone.
I found a box of Mighty Grips a couple of weeks ago at work when we were doing inventory that had the old 317 area code, so I went past on the way to the Races and grabbed a handful of them to add an Old School touch to the prizes. Parking lot full of cars when I got to Folk’s. Once inside I find Sonny looking thru the junk CDs in the bottom of the Prop Box. It seems that the music that we use to do the show didn’t get packed after the last show and was back at Barney’s in Elkhart. We caught a real break and were able to piece together most of what we needed from the discs in the bottom of the bin. When it was all said and done, we ended up with-

Kelli takes home the DVD and the Goondockers slip in for Second to prevent a one-two sweep by the good Sisters. A fantastic night of racing. Ended up playing a lot of old stuff that we don’t play very often, and it was good. We may have to do a little more of that. All in all a very good ending to what could have been one train wreck of a show. In the words of my pal Hunter Thompson “We are, after all, professionals”.
Going to Hoagland Friday. Anybody that would like to ride along, email me at jjjxn@hotmail.com and I’ll get with you to arrange it. Or if you want to go up on your own, there’s a link to a map up in the “Upcoming Races” section. The food is great, and Hoagland is always a good time. Sign-up at seven-thirty, race ‘em at eight.
Ciao for nao
